On a sunny Saturday in autumn team OCHC XI took the scenic drive over the hills and far away to Kingsbridge to play basically on a beach or a pitch that was worse than Brickfields!
The day started well with Chell remembering deodorant, towel but most importantly Alfie! Jess and Fi were down with kids with their new wheels and Jess started the donkey vote with her new neck tattoo!
Joining the formidable x1’s for their debut was Hattie, Anna and Libby (fresh from the airport and looking to shed 15 days worth of waffles)
El Capitan was on form from the off looking for some ‘high level hockey’ and remembering how to measure 5 yards/m. Side line eyes and support from Kayleigh and Dee set the tone from the off!
The first half started with a bang with a great call from Robin the umpire to disallow a clearly tapped in goal from the opposition! This gave us a clear boost to push forward. Excellent runs from Anna down that right wing with Liv so nearly getting that touch. Hattie slotted well into the mid with myself and Lally putting some miles into those legs. Although hockey is best played with all protective kit and lally kept throwing hers around the pitch….. good job mum Chell kept picking up after her!!!!! some excellent wingback play from Jess sent the ball in for 3 short corners but alas the game at half time was 0-0.
Second half came and Libby showed her skill playing up to 3 different positions whilst Tori upped her Fitbit marker to make some great interceptions and drives through the midfield. Fi and Alfie giving clear commands to keep the back solid bringing Hattie back into the back 4. Unfortunately, the opposition sneaked through 2 late goals even with blocks on the line…. But as Joey remarked, ‘they scored when I was off the pitch’ following a tweak in her quads (lally said she just wanted a free massage from Chell!!!!?!?) which clearly came from those amazing 1:2’s with Liv down the line…. Looking like a wing back even venturing into the D.
Unfortunately, dispute the pressure from Kat in the D, mids and especially Tori flying those balls in we just couldn’t connect to goal, so the score ended 0-2 in a loss. But much to learn and take away as positives from a solid, well controlled OCHC club performance!
Big kudos to the players who stepped up today it was shown in the votes for player
Chell 2 lally 1 (after late applications via postal vote from team M-W) player jointly went to Hattie and Anna!
Although chell did get donkey votes 2 ( which I think is rude as I ran nearly 6 miles today! TBH I think I have a black eye from being taken out a couple of times!) Jess also got a (late) vote for her neck tattoo but Lally was the clear winner for lots of reasons but mainly losing stuff!!!
